Trump Supporters: Don’t Limit Our “Strongman”

The No Kings marches made it clear: the anti-Trump movement is surging, while the Administration’s approval ratings keep sinking. As the resistance ramps up to confront ongoing and future abuses, the battle for hearts and minds is more urgent than ever.

Slogans like “No Kings” and “Hands Off” have already electrified crowds and sparked real action. But if we want to keep this momentum rolling — and mobilize even bigger, more diverse coalitions — we shouldn’t kid ourselves — Trump supporters aren’t just comfortable with a “strong” president, they’re practically cheering for a power grab.

When Topos interviewers hit the streets, they found Trump supporters aren’t losing sleep over the president’s power grabs — they’re demanding more. And these aren’t extremist right-wingers. To even moderate supporters, “He’s getting stuff done for a change. Don’t slow him down.” Gridlock? That’s just an excuse for letting problems fester. The solution, in their eyes: give the president authority to bulldoze obstacles.

As the resistance continues to grow, it will be increasingly important to add messages that don’t fall into the “power = getting it done” trap.
